A couple of things with my new report

I have made a report in SRS and am not sure of how to do some of the functions I need.

In SQL I can use UPPER to convert to upper case, SRS doesn't seem to like this. When I add UPPER to the SQL in my SRS report, the report runs but the line that is to be upper case is missing. If I remove the UPPER word from my query it works fine just displaying in lower case. Am I doing something wrong?

In Excel 2007 (I am converting my report from Excel to SRS) there is a function called NETWORKDAYS (Returns the number of whole working days between start_date and end_date. Working days exclude weekends and any dates identified in holidays. Use NETWORKDAYS to calculate employee benefits that accrue based on the number of days worked during a specific term.) Is there something similar I can use in SRS?

Thanks.

Why not put all of your TSQL into a stored procedure? I have just completed a project where this was done.

>Use NETWORKDAYS to calculate employee benefits that accrue based on thenumber of days worked during a specific term.) Is there somethingsimilar I can use in SRS?
It is possible to write such a function - I wrote one recently - will try and find a reference to it.

Thanks.

You should be able to use UPPER in your SQL, certainly works for me....

i.e.

Code Snippet

select
acct.accno,
UPPER(nonpers.name) as 'name',
term.amount,
term.eod_balance,

|||

Hello Joe,

There are 2 ways to fix your upper case requirement:

1. Like Will said, you can do it straight from your SQL query.

2. The equivalent function from within SSRS is UCase. Use it like this: =UCase(Fields!Field1.Value)

As for your other question, I think you'll have to write a custom function to handle that.

Hope this helps.

A CLR SVF works on my DB instance but not on the other one

Hello,

I have scalar valued function that simply convert a date from UTC to LET by using the .NET functions..

The code is very simple:

PartialPublicClass UserFunction

<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction(isDeterministic:=True, Name:="ConvertLETDatetoUTC")> _

PublicSharedFunction ConvertLETDatetoUTC(ByVal DateLETFormat As SqlDateTime) As DateTime

' Add your code here

Dim DateLETFormatToConvert AsDate

DateLETFormatToConvert = DateLETFormat.Value

Return DateLETFormatToConvert.ToUniversalTime

EndFunction
End Class

select ConvertLETDatetoUTC('2007-06-25 10:00:00')

Now the problem is that the function works properly on my sql server instanc but in the moment I deploy the same code on the sql server instance on a remote machine the conversion doesn't work that means that date I pass is not converted.

On the SQl server machine there the .net framework 1.1 and 2.0 ...

I really don't know what to check to solve the problem .. some idea?

Thank you

Can you debug the procedure ? I would use something like the Pipe.Send command to send some debbuging information if you are not able to debug the procedure right on the server. Its hard to tell where the problem is based on, so debugging using SQLPipe should be a good alternative for you.

|||As Jens says, you probably should debuf the function - however I don't believe you can use SqlPipe in the function as it is a UDF. But, are you getting any errors, or is it just the wrong data coming back? If it is wrong data, what collation and default regional settings does the remote server have?

Hi,

thank you for the reply...

I was able from my development environment to debug and the statement:

DateLETFormatToConvert.ToUniversalTime

doesn't change a comma to my date!!

It is really weird but I don't know which settings (windows or sql server) I should check..

Thankx

Hello,

I checked the window settings and I found out that the PC where the SQL server instance that gives me problem, use as Date Time zone: (GMT) Casablanca,Monrovia

while my Date time zome is Amsterdam, Rome...

The DBA told met that all the server in test and production has this setting and it cannot be changed.

Could be this the reason of the difference?

If yes hor an I make my .net code run as it should?

something to do maybe with the .Net framework installed?

90 day trial

I want to convert my 90 day trial of SQL 2005 to the 2005 standard version,
is there an easy way to do this without having to resetup my databases which
a 3rd party setup for us
thanksHi,
From what I know, the trial versions of SQL Server cannot be changed to
Licensed intallations.
0. Turn off your applications that access the trial server.
1. Backup all your databases.
2. Detatch all the user databases (See your Books Online documentation to
see what the system databases are).
3. Uninstall the trial server.
4. Install licensed SQL and follow the instructions for disaster recovery
for the master database. This will recover your logins (with passwords and
SIDs) and linked servers, etc.
5. Attach the user databases you detached in step 2.
That is the basic outline. Use your Books Online documentation to fill in
the details.

8114 Workaround

The very simplified version of my problem is that these

Select DISTINCT Cast(KWID as NUMERIC)
FROM OV_MID

Select DISTINCT Convert(Numeric,KWID)
FROM OV_MID

should work, but don't because KWID is a varchar and somewhere in there is something that won't convert.

I get this error:
Server: Msg 8114, Level 16, State 5, Line 1
Error converting data type varchar to numeric.

I would love to find out which rows are causing the error, but more importantly I would like to have a Null value where the conversion doesn't work and the numeric values where it does work.

I have already deleted all obvious non-numeric characters, but I believe there are some line terminators being read as carriage returns in this table.

Any workaround or way to determine which rows have KWID that cannot be converted to numeric would be most appreciated.

Thanks!Just in case anyone actully reads this and has the same question. I solved it with:

SELECT
Case
When ISNUMERIC(KWID) = 1
THEN Cast(KWID as NUMERIC)
ELSE Cast(null as NUMERIC)
END
FROM OV_MID

maybe that will help someone else out who is going as crazy as I was. :o

6.5 Servercrash

Hello,
we have a NT4-Server with SQL 6.5 SP5 running.
The xx.DAT Database is already here.
Who can I read the Data in the DAT-File?
Who can I convert the DAT-File to a SQL2000
Here is the origin text in german:

Die SQL 6.5 Datenbank xxx.DAT habe ich noch.
Wie kann ich diese auf einem anderen 6.5 System wieder aktivieren.
Am besten jedoch wäre eine Möglichkeit, dieses DAT-File gleich auf einem

You need to have a 6.5 server running and then you can upgrade using the SQL Server 2000 upgrade
wizard, script and DTS or some other method.
So, you need to have a working 6.5 installation to get to the data. You can then read about the
commands DISK REINIT and DISK REFIT. Hopefully they will work for you.
Unless, the files are actually backup files from the 6.5 server (performed with the DUMP command).
If so, read about the LOAD command.

It is not clear if you have SQL Server 6.5 running or not! There are quite a
few differences between SQL Server 6.5 and SQL 2000, therefore there is not
the same automatic conversion options that you would have with SQL 7.0. If
SQL Server 6.5 is running, you can use DTS to transfer the information,
although I would take the script and bcp route.

I haven't seen such tool.
Again, this process is not trivial, so you might want to hire a consultant who knows his/her way
around 6.5 to do this. Or open a case with MS support. I assume that you have read about the command
in Books Online, of course.

Unser SQL 6.5 Server ist gecrasht.
Die SQL 6.5 Datenbank xxx.DAT habe ich noch.
Wie kann ich diese auf einem anderen 6.5 System wieder aktivieren.
Am besten jedoch wre eine Mglichkeit, dieses DAT-File gleich auf einem
SQL2000 Server einzubinden.
Wer kann mir helfen?
Alexander
fter a Harddisk-Crash> Who can I read the Data in the DAT-File?
SQL Server 6.5.

> Who can I convert the DAT-File to a SQL2000
You need to have a 6.5 server running and then you can upgrade using the SQL
Server 2000 upgrade
wizard, script and DTS or some other method.
So, you need to have a working 6.5 installation to get to the data. You can
then read about the
commands DISK REINIT and DISK REFIT. Hopefully they will work for you.
Unless, the files are actually backup files from the 6.5 server (performed w
ith the DUMP command).

6.5 server dates not showing dates with ss:fff

When i view a date on sql 6.5 it is showing as '22 Nov 2004 14:50', if
however i convert it to char 109 it gives me the full date ie 'Nov 22 2004
2:50:56:477PM'. Is there a setting on either the pc or sql that is causing
this ?
Thanks in advance. What application are you using to view the date? This is a pure client appli
