Is Reporting services installed on the machine you are designing on? If not, go to the project properties and change the report server url to the machine where Report Server is installed on.|||

I'm getting the exact same error, but I'm working off of the same machine. To clarify, SQL and MS Visual Studio are on the same machine -- I've created the report and tried to deploy in MSVS.

Note that this machine is part of a network governed by a file & print server.

I can get a valid web page at http://localhost that changes to http://localhost/default.aspx and displays a Home page to a Team Web Site.

But when I try http://lolcalhost/reportsserver, I get the following errors:

Server Error in '/ReportServer' Application.

No,

I am not able to browse to http://localhost/reportServer using IE The page cannot be found is shown I have mentioned the error above that I got when I am trying to deploy the reporting into IIS..

Thanks

Then that means that either your virtual directories have been created with a different name (not the default) or have not been created at all.

Have you run the reporting services confirguration tool?

|||

Raina - I was having the exact same problem and eventually resolved it this way:

I discovered that the Reporting Services Configuration Manager was incorrectly showing green check-marks indicating my Report Server and Report Manager Virtual Directories were set up, when in fact they were not (what tipped me off to this is when I went to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services, there were no Report Server or Reports folder branches under my Default Web Site tree). So in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, I clicked the New button to create the default Report Server and Report Manager Virtual Directories ((this was the 2nd time I did this, which may have been necessary because I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS after instaling SSRS). This time the IIS manager showed Report Server and Reports folder branches under my Default Web Site tree, and I was able to successfully browse to http://localhost/reportserver, AND deploy my SSRS project to the web server. Note that I am running a named instance of SQL Server 2005 (the default instance is SQL Server 2000), and even though I have seen posts suggesting the correct URL for a named instance would be http://localhost/reportserver$<named_instance>, this did NOT work for me ... http://localhost/reportserver DOES work.

Well I have to disagree. I am also running a named instance, so the URL that works for me is
http://localhost/reportserver$<named_instance

When you create a new report model project its deploy URL by default is http://localhost/reportserver So i had to change that , through project properties, to the named instance one.

Hello Rahul,

Since you're getting access denied errors on 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot', can you make sure you have access to that directory? Also, check the security settings within IIS.

Jarret

|||

What happens when you try to navigate to http://localhost/ReportServer ?

|||

Try using www.sysinternals.com filemon to determine what the cause of the access denied error is.

Here is a similar message with resolution:

http://weblog.gpconsulting.com/archive/2005/08/26/181.aspx

cheers,

Did you try filemon?

Here are some detailed steps to troubleshoot.

http://tinyurl.com/3647cg

|||Your report server is not configured properly. Most likely has something to do with IIS and/or the web publishing directory c:\Inetpub\wwwroot.|||

Below is the output of Filemon When I try to run http://localhost/Reports/ in IE,

47 11:04:36 AM aspnet_wp.exe:632 QUERY INFORMATION C:\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config NOT FOUND Attributes: Error
48 11:04:36 AM aspnet_wp.exe:632 QUERY INFORMATION C:\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config NOT FOUND Attributes: Error
49 11:04:36 AM aspnet_wp.exe:632 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\PrecompiledApp.config NOT FOUND Attributes: Error

This is just for the information, no web.comfig is present in wwwroot and no PrecompiledApp.config is present in C:\...\ReportManager directory. The ReportManager and ReportServer directories is the virtual directory on the IIS, which is automatically made, if you choose, default configuration while installing SQL Server 2005.

The only config files present in the C:\...\ReportManager directory are:

RSWebApplication.config, Web.config, rsmgrpolicy.config

and in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer are:

rsreportserver.config, rssrvpolicy.config, Web.config

What I can trouble shoot with the above information?

A Connection cannot be made

Hello
I try to build my cube on localhost by VS2005, while the data source is on the other machine. When I deploy the cube, it gives me the following error msg:
The project could not be deployed to the 'localhost' server because of the following connectivity problems: A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment tab, and then enter the name of the server.
I tried to fix it by following the instruction, but it does not work. I think my target server should be localhost, since my cube is built on the localhost, is it right? And I check my MS SQL server 2005 has been upgraded to package 1.
I am new to VS 2005, and really appreciate any help.
Thank you so much!
Aurora

Did you install SQL Server Analysis Services?

Take a look in the SQL Server Configuration Manager and see if it is running.

Can you connect to Analysis Server using SQL Management Studio? If yes, double check your project settings in BI Dev Studio. Try and use machine name instead of localhost as a Target server

Here is some information for you to troubleshoot connectivity problems: http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/edwardm/
