A big, big SSIS for everything?

Dear all,

I would like to hear point of views, thoughts and ideas about the following request.

As some of us would have seen from a couple a days ago I’ve been setting posts one after one in order to obtain some answers about our business basis.

We’ve got a service running all day long (to accomplish this it was wrote by Visual Basic 6.0) which is checking up a file structure system for a several requirements such a verify if exists a .nul or .txt in each folder and therefore fires a DTS package. Up to here that’s fine, that system works amazing and even is be able to run till three packages at the same time. 400 Dts are scheduled this way and 100 are scheduled by Agent.

Problem comes naturally with SQL2005 where such control is not possible (it seems so) from old tools belonging to Visual Studio 6.0 because the aforementioned version uses assemblies instead of dll, bla, bla.

Keeping in mind that .NET is not possible for reasons that going beyond of any technical matter or whatever I’ve thought do that service by SSIS. A big SSIS running forever. Its responsabilities might be:

1-Look in each folder for the criteria specified in the scheduling of that SSIS

2-Launch a specified SSIS in the case that criteria has matched.

3-Update SQL tables with LOGS, times, executions, etc,

4-Look again

The point 3 will be visible from our Intranet via ASP 3.0 pages as currently we do.

Pros and cons?

Sorry for this painful request but I don’t believe that such issue can be of that kind of odd issues that nodoby suffer in its organizations.

Who else is needed for answers?

Thanks a lot for your time,

I'm not quite sure what your question is. Are you saying you want to run a SSIS package forever that simply keeps looping whenever a file is found? I don't see a problem with that. it would be interesting to see how it goes.

-Jamie

|||

When finds a Jamie.Nul file in d:\server25k\a\ launch SSIS package B and then would delete that .NUL.

Sensible information attached in that SSIS launched as flat file for example, accounts info would be stored in a backup folder. After one execution come back to verify and so on

60 days of backups

I have had a request to run backups of a database to disk, and retain the
backups until they are 60 days old. I've got the job set up, but it either
appends or overwrites the previous job. Does anyone know of a way to do
this?
TIA,
KSee

You could use the sqlmaint exe but I think backups are too
important.

404 Request failed error

Hi
Iam reposting this as my qs seems to have submerged in a deluge of questions !
I have a .net application that lists all the reports within a specific
folder using RS.children methodand then calls a specific selected report in
Report viewer. My application code and reporting services are in two
different servers however in the same domain. The problem is that when I call
my .NET application it gives me this error on Line 85:
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the
current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about
the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP
status 404: Not Found.
Source Error:
Line 84: RS.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Line 85: Dim items As CatalogItem()
Line 86: items = RS.ListChildren("/eCMSDashboard", True)
iam setting the Server.URL property to http://<<Servername>>/ReportServer
Please Help !!
Thanks
PriyaI believe that after line 84 you should have something like this :
rs.Url = http://<<Servername>>/ReportServer
Thereafter line 85 and the rest will follow.

looks like you're trying to access IIS anonymously, or anonymous access
allowed at IIS side.
Both will cause this error.|||Thanks for your swift reply!
However, I do have anonymous access turned off for the websites _Reports_

I have sort of asked this elsewhere, but with new information the questions
has changed slightly, so apologies for the broken thread.
I have a web service sending messages through to a SQL server.
I have integrated security on (no anonymous). For one application, when I
run the application i get an unauthorized error and the logs hold these

What I am confused about is why are there two entries for each request (one
with authentication and one without), and then the next question would be
why does the last 'request' have two entries, both without authentiacation.
perhaps this is an impossible question to answer, but i thought i'd see if
anyone out there had an idea.
I still seem to have my delegation problem, another application seems to be
sending through commands properly, bt not getting an answer from the web
service, but i've decided to take a break from that one.
Any help/thoughts would be apprecitaed.
Thanks
Saira
Where is your web service running? Are you using the http endpoint in SQL
Server 2005? If not, I'm not sure where SQL Server fits into this picture.
The double messages through authentication are normal. The client will try
without authentication and then try with authentication once it find out
what the server needs.

|||Thanks, on the authentication, i sort of figured that, but was not positive.
I am not taking advantage of any of the new SQL 2005 features yet.
My setup is a recently installed SQL Server 2005 box, hosting an upgraded
SQL 2000 database.
The client (XP SP2) talks to the web server (IIS 6, in a seperate IP
segment), and the web server requests the data from the database. I had
assumed that I would not need to make massive changes for the upgrade to
2005, is this not the case?

What I am confused about is why are there two entries for each request (one
with authentication and one without), and then the next question would be
why does the last 'request' have two entries, both without authentiacation.
perhaps this is an impossible question to answer, but i thought i'd see if
anyone out there had an idea.
I still seem to have my delegation problem, another application seems to be
sending through commands properly, bt not getting an answer from the web
service, but i've decided to take a break from that one.
Any help/thoughts would be apprecitaed.
Thanks
SairaWhere is your web service running? Are you using the http endpoint in SQL
Server 2005? If not, I'm not sure where SQL Server fits into this picture.
The double messages through authentication are normal. The client will try
without authentication and then try with authentication once it find out
what the server needs.

400: Bad Request

I am getting an "The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request " Error in Report Manager Webpage. http://servername/Reports
The Reportserver itself and reports works fine (http://servername/reportserver).
Reports render OK and i am still able to connect to reportserver by management studio.

The environment is a W2K3 Standard with SQL 2005 (Build 2153) - and the server is a domain controller.

Reporting Service Configuration does not mention any issues - I have reapplied default settings - no change.
There are no errors in the eventlog.

I need some help - please

HANNESI have already checked the following posts

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=284929&SiteID=1
(I did not understend the "RSWebApplication.config" file - as soon as i write in the a reportserver url the website returns an execption - so this config must be empty I guess)

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=479636&SiteID=1|||This post gave me the finale hint (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=165851&SiteID=1) - but I do not habe a specific IP address bound to the website - but I had specific hostheaders and it seems the reportmanager needs at least one binding with no hosthader in my environment - therefor I added a fifth binding with no hosthander, no specific IP and default Port
