i am planning to take the exam 70431 for sql server 2005 ...does any one have a good exam and course material either online or it will be great if it could be emailed to me.

If you are not in a hurry the book used by SQL Server people is by Robert Vierra but if you are take the second link and fill it in as the third link is from MSDN and you have a study guide or just print it out with the developer edition or Enterprise installed run searches in the BOL. And remember to understand the recursive trigger because Microsoft is known to give you four almost identical triggers with nothing more than space missing. And the index structure have changed know the whole thing because indexes are vendors creations all improvements are very important, when you are through with the material get Transcenders exams because the material is not the exam. If you know how to take the exam you are almost there. Hope this helps.

70-431 Exam Question

I just took the 70-431 exam the other day and did not pass. As a matter of
fact I failed miserably, mostly on the simulation questions (which this was
my first experience with those types of questions). Now I know I am not that
dumb, have been using SQL for almost 10 years and passed the same type of
exam for SQL 7 a few years back.
My question.... in the simulation questions are you marked down for things
such as 1) time to answer a question 2) hitting areas of the simulation that
do not apply (hence the message that the part I was trying to hit was not
valid for that simulation). When I first saw these questions I noticed I
could try alot of things and I went a little "click-happy" to see what did
and did not work before I answered the question which I suspect absolutly
KILLED me.
Also, any advice in order for me to prepare for the re-take would be greatly
appreciated. I should be able to pass this thing with some effort.

disagreed with several answers). I didn't use anything else to prepare and
got something like 950 on 70-431. In the Transcender test you get zero for a
partially complete answer which might relate to your experience on the
simulations - I'm not too sure. If you do go for the Transcenders, get in
touch with their marketing dept as they often have special offers that'll
save you $100 or so if you time your purchase right.

be learned parrot-fashion (esp 70-443). The exam style has changed a fair
bit and there are enough simulations/scenarios to make cheating like this
(fortunately) more difficult. I omitted to mention that I had been using SQL
2005 for 1.5 years before doing the exams - what I was getting at is that
for preparation on the exam type, Transcender is the best out there. So,
admittedly it's not all down to knowledge and I agree that exam technique
can still make a disproportionately big difference - eg there are still far
too many questions where in a list of options the most recent SQL technology
is always going to be the correct answer!

If you're looking for brain dumps this is not the site to get those answers. The 70-431 exam is a 200-level "how-to" exam on all the nuts and bolts of SQL Server 2005. There are free eLearning classes available on the Microsoft web site which will help you with the content information for the test, as well as a number of excellent books hitting the market about now.

I believe you'll get about 40 questions on the test, though it may be higher than that, and you'll get about 2 1/2 hours to answer them.

Go to www.microsoft.com/sql and click on Learning and you'll find out all you need to know to prepare for the test.

Your question really belongs in a separate/new thread. This thread is about MCTS.

But to answer your question, I would advise against putting it on the domain controller. The domain controller contains the Active Directory and security is extremely important. Adding any other role such as SQL Server would complicate security configuration for it.

Actually, if possible, I would set up a new dedicated SQL Server - not add it to the Exchange Server 2003. Mixing multiple roles on one server always complicates security. But if you cannot set up a new dedicated server I would add it to the Exchange Server 2003.

Other more experienced people may have different ideas.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to be taking the test soon and was afraid they would do something like this. They did this to me on the 70-228... completely changed the content and format from what my rather expensive test prep materials were based on.

Could you give us a clue as to what the simulations focused on? (ie. TSQL, SSMS, etc.) I can do just about everything you need to do in SSMS and other GUI tools, but I don't have all the full syntaxes for the TSQL methods memorized (ie. create HTTP endpoint for SOAP vs. TCP endpoint for mirroring).

Well, this really isn't a database documentation request, and using a questions-only site really isn't the best way to go. There are reputable firms, such as Transcender, that will help you with testing and so on. The point is that you should try and learn the trade, rather than just memorizing questions. Hello everyone,

I would like to let you all know and be aware of the fact that microsoft has changed its exam pattern for

070-431 be very carefull as microsoft has changed the exam pattern and due to which i failed the exam today.

Its now based on simulations questions which comes after the multiple choice questions i got 15 simulations

separately apart from 35 multi choice questions along with exibits. I wasnt aware of this fact and it wasnt

mentioned ánywhere about simulations questions I think no one knows about it I am the first to face this type of

exam.. The exams comes up with 2 sections the first sections was questions that was 35 in 1hr and the next

was simulations that was 15 2hr 15mins so in total it was 195min exam and I got all correct in first section

and the second section was gred out 60% I got 560 out of 700 may not be difficult but very new.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to be taking the test soon and was afraid they would do something like this. They did this to me on the 70-228... completely changed the content and format from what my rather expensive test prep materials were based on.

Could you give us a clue as to what the simulations focused on? (ie. TSQL, SSMS, etc.) I can do just about everything you need to do in SSMS and other GUI tools, but I don't have all the full syntaxes for the TSQL methods memorized (ie. create HTTP endpoint for SOAP vs. TCP endpoint for mirroring).

Well, this really isn't a database documentation request, and using a questions-only site really isn't the best way to go. There are reputable firms, such as Transcender, that will help you with testing and so on. The point is that you should try and learn the trade, rather than just memorizing questions. If you're looking for brain dumps this is not the site to get those answers. The 70-431 exam is a 200-level "how-to" exam on all the nuts and bolts of SQL Server 2005. There are free eLearning classes available on the Microsoft web site which will help you with the content information for the test, as well as a number of excellent books hitting the market about now.

I believe you'll get about 40 questions on the test, though it may be higher than that, and you'll get about 2 1/2 hours to answer them.

Go to www.microsoft.com/sql and click on Learning and you'll find out all you need to know to prepare for the test.

Your question really belongs in a separate/new thread. This thread is about MCTS.

But to answer your question, I would advise against putting it on the domain controller. The domain controller contains the Active Directory and security is extremely important. Adding any other role such as SQL Server would complicate security configuration for it.

Actually, if possible, I would set up a new dedicated SQL Server - not add it to the Exchange Server 2003. Mixing multiple roles on one server always complicates security. But if you cannot set up a new dedicated server I would add it to the Exchange Server 2003.

Other more experienced people may have different ideas.

I am studying for the 70--229 microsoft exam using the MS study guide. An example of a stored procedure used to add customer and check for dupes is below. return (5)You assign the output of checkforduplicatecustomer to variable @.r_code, but your main procedure checks that value of if @.@.rowcount to determine whether to generate a duplicate record error. Shouldn't you be checking @.r_code instead?

Also, you would be better off wrting your checkforduplicatecustomer procedure as a user-defined function. They are much easier to use in code, like this:
if dbo.checkforduplicatecustomer(Parameters...) = 1 begin....

And why don't you just check for duplicates in your main code using IF EXISTS? That would be the simplest way, unless you really need to reuse the duplicate checking logic in other procedures as well.

MandarThere are tons of web sites with this material for your review. You can also purchase testing software like transcender. Also, if you don't already have sql server to use - get an eval copy.

64-bit Windows/64-bit SQL - External Drives

I read in the SQL 2005 Exam guides for clustering that (p.283 - 70-443),
that if building a cluster on 64-bit Windows then must use Fibre drives?
I'm trying to verying this with help of Google/MSDN, and not found
confirmation anywhere.
Is this the case that running a cluster on 64-bit editions places these
restrictions on hardware?
If we want use 64-bit clustered system, are we basically forced to accept a
fibre-based SAN as I/O system?

Windows 2003 64-bit does not require fibre drives. You can use anything
internal for the nodes. The shared disk can be Parallel Attached SCSI
(though I would not), iSCSI or SAN based.
Now Windows 2008 will not support PAS, but it will support SAS, SAN, or
iSCSI.
