Hi all, first post!
I'm working for a company that runs a business management system which uses an old version of Crystal Reports (version 8.5!) for reporting on pretty much anything the system can output.
I don't know how much it differs from the newer versions, but i'm new to the system (two days experience and counting) and I'm after a couple of pointers.
1) I am trying to output stock levels for products which are both in and out of stock. Now, due to some sillyness when the BMS was designed, if a product is out of stock, it has doesn't have a row in the bins_lots table (where stock levels are kept), rather than 0.
Therefore, if I do a report which outputs the stock levels of a product (part, items that are out of stock are missing from the report, rather than having a 0 next to their name.
Is it possible to tell Crystal that if a product exists but doesn't have an entry in bins_lots (where stock amounts are kept) then it should be 0?
I'd find this easy if it were a normal If Statement, but Crystal has to be difficult with its wierd way of doing conditionals.
2) Secondly, again due to the BMS design, if a product is on order, the amount in the order is logged in multiple purchase orders. Producing a query will give me duplicate entries for products. I know I can 'hide duplicates', but it results in a messy report.
Can I make Crystal add all of these numbers together (i.e. where product = 'AD-03', add quantity of due products together) and output the final result without using the subtotal/group functions.
All help appreciated :)1) Left join to the bins_lots table. When the amount column is null then there's no stock.
e.g. a formula to return the stock level would be (assuming your column is called amount)
if isnull({bins_lots.amount}) then 0 else {bins_lots.amount}
2) Well, I don't really know how you're going to add numbers without grouping / total functions. Why is grouping an issue? Why can't you group on the product, hide the detail, and print in the product group footer to get 1 record per product? Nothing messy there.

a beginners question about linking data
I have just started (yesterday) to use Crystal Reports. I'm almost embarest to ask this question, it may be a simple step or it maybe impossible.
I'm trying to make a report that will show a trend over three months.
My question is, I have a folder named "database", in that folder are 500 folders. Each folder is a workorder that has going through the plant. Can I pull data out of each of these 500 folders into one report? If so could someone point me in the right direction. I can get the data from one of the work order folders but don't know how to get it from all of them.
The database folder contains two .db files, two .px files and one .net file, and the other 500 folders. the work order folders, contains 16 .db files, 16 .px files (there all refre to different processes in the workorder), one .ini file, and one .mb file.
And the database is on my harddrive.
any advise would be apreciated.I'm afraid that you have to develop a small application to read the data from all the folders and save it in a new file and then use crystal reports
By the way, your data is a paradox database|||That's what I was afraid of. Could you tell what kind of application it would be? If I knew what it was, there maybe something in the appliction that we use to collect the data. It already has templates for crystal reports for a single work order, this I found by digging around in application files.
I knew the database was a paradox from reading the help files in crystal, but I don't really know that must (yet) about databases.
Thanks jggtz of the reply.|||Would I need something like MySQL?|||My advice is that you find help close around you from somebody that already know some programming language, like Visual Basic, to help you to develop that small an easy application that collect data from all the desired folders and print the reports
Or
As you said before, maybe there is an "Export" option in the application you use to collect data and that could be helpful if it has the right features
Or
If you want to work a liitle more, you can attach (link) to Access all the neccesary .db files and manually (or by a sql query) append all the data into a single one table to then print the reports

4.5 16bit to 9...help!
I am a complete Crystal reports novice and am throwing myself at your mercy...i have a number of reports compiled under Crystal 4.5 16bit years ago by someone who has now left my company. They are compiled reports that run on users machines who don't have Crystal installed..and they have always worked just fine. I now need to get the same reports running under Crystal 9 but the first thing i noticed is that there is no compile report option, i have tried also compiling them under Crystal 7 32 bit but they still do no work. Is there any easy way of getting my 4.5 16bit .rpt's to work under 7 or 9 ?
Help!!I think that saving the report in a later version of Crystal is enough to convert it, but I'm not positive.
Have you updated the users machine to include the version 9 dlls? I know that when I switched from version 6 to version 8.5, I had trouble with a dll called p2smon.dll. Version 6 of p2smon has something in it that my reports utilize that version 8.5 doesn't support. (Like you, the reports I use were created by a person who no longer works at my company).
Here's a link to a thread I've posted about my Crystal problems with backward compatibility. It has links to other threads. Maybe you'll find something useful?
http://www.dev-archive.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=283044|||Thanks for your prompt reply..i tried various things. One thing i couldn't understand is that In Crystal 7 help one of the runtime files that is meant to be distributed with the report is called crrun32.exe. I can't find a copy of this file anywhere...

4 different criteria, Crystal Reports 7
Hi,
I have a report that I need some help with. I have 4 different evaluations and if either set of 2 is true, I want to have them displayed on the resulting report.
This is what I put it, maybe someone can offer some suggestions to help it work right.
{MasterLog.DateOff} = (CurrentDate) And
{MasterLog.TimeOff} < (DateTime(0,0,0,6,30,00))
Or
{MasterLog.DateOff} = Date(Year(CurrentDate), Month(CurrentDate), Day(CurrentDate) - 1) And
{MasterLog.TimeOff} > (DateTime(0,0,0,6,30,00))
This report is looking for any row that is equil to today and the time field is less than 6:30 AM. Or Yesterday's date and that rows time greater than 6:30 AM.
The 2 fields are date/time fields not converted to date in the report options. I formatted them in the report but I dont think that is where the problem is. I believe its in my formula.
If either set of criteria is true, then print that row in the report.
What I get back is all of yesterdays rows but none of todays rows that fit the criteria. I did make sure that there was data to show in the database.
Its a MSaccess 2002 format.
Any suggestions? Further clarifications?
intercepterAnd after spending a couple hours working further, I have my solution.
It appears first off I wasnt formatting correctly for the database fields I was using. Also, I should have enclosed the 2 sets of criteria in ( ) between the or.
So, the resuting formula is:
({MasterLog.DateOff} = Date(Year(CurrentDate), Month(CurrentDate), Day(CurrentDate) - 1) and
{MasterLog.TimeOff} >= DateTime (1899, 12, 30,06, 30, 00)) or
({MasterLog.TimeOff} <= DateTime (1899, 12, 30,06, 30, 00) and
{MasterLog.DateOff} = CurrentDate)
I hope this helps someone else.
